Bentley AutoPLANT: Features and Benefits
AutoPLANT Piping: Specification Driven
AutoPLANT Piping includes database catalogs of tens of thousands of components, from which manufacturer-specific specifications may be produced. The ability to select and apply one or more specifications consistently throughout one or more drawings or projects is why we call AutoPLANT Piping a specification-driven application. Components placed using this method are not merely drawing blocks. Instead, the components are built parametrically, and therefore have a high degree of intelligence.

To expedite the drawing process, comprehensive sample specifications are included. These specifications are available in Imperial, Metric, and/or Mixed-Metric versions. The Spec Generator program enables you to build and customize specification databases.
PlantSpace Piping: Solid Integration
PlantSpace Piping can be configured to work with data from your current plant and business systems, adding value by making the data useful and accessible to more members within the project team and across the enterprise.
PlantSpace Piping: Faster Pipe Layout
Speed the pipe layout process with Intelligent Line. Selectively change and modify lines and components on the fly. Simple and fast configuration of piping specifications allows projects to begin ahead of time.
AutoPLANT Piping: Easy-to-Use Interface
Component placement in AutoPLANT Piping is an intuitive process, and many aids are provided to automate common tasks. Attach a component to the run end of the previous component using a "fitting-to-fitting" method, place a known distance from a reference point, align centerlines, attach to polyline intersections, toggle the insertion point, change the reference point, adjust elevation, etc. In addition, all standard AutoCAD commands are available (move, stretch, copy, mirror, etc.).
Whether placing adjacent piping and components in congested plant areas, or routing over large areas, automated component placement and orientation options reflect standard design conventions and maximize productivity.
AutoPLANT Piping: Output Options
Graphics information is contained in standard AutoCAD DWG files. Each drawing has an associated ODBC-compliant database containing piping system information with active links to ensure correlation between the graphics information and the database information. Output may also be structured in either a PCF or PXF neutral file format for use with associated applications, such as Bentley AutoPIPE pipe stress analysis software.
For example, before placing piping elements, you might have previously xreferenced steel and equipment drawings in order to ensure placement at the proper coordinates (such as connecting a flange directly to an xreferenced drawing's equipment nozzle). Similarly, drafters and designers from these other disciplines might need to xreference the piping drawing. The new AutoPLANT Plant Design Drawing Production utilities drastically simplify this process by enabling you to define a common Work Area. Individual drawings can be added to a Work Area to create a set of saved xreferenced drawings that overlay each other in a Work Area file.
Piping isometrics may be automatically created from the 3D model with either the auto-iso feature in the AutoPLANT Isometrics module, or with ISOGEN.

AutoPLANT Piping: Work Areas and Drawing Creation
During the generation of plant models and drawings, it is frequently necessary to xreference drawings from a variety of disciplines. Xreferencing drawings enables you to visualize how elements from various models will look when overlaid, and ensures proper connectivity among these elements.

AutoPLANT Piping: Isogen
Create an isometric by using the AutoPLANT Isogen interface. You can export the piping geometry and material information to Isogen to automatically generate isometric drawings from your Bentley Piping models. The isometrics are simple graphic files in AutoCAD-compatible (DXF) or MicroStation-compatible (DGN) isometric formats.
They do not contain the intelligent features of the AutoPLANT Isometrics package. It is an excellent way to export large numbers of isometrics quickly. There are a large number of options available to customize the appearance of the isometrics.
AutoPLANT Piping: Drawing Flattener
Many companies require the ability to produce editable 2D drawings derived from 3D models - a common 3D design problem. Drawing Flattener converts plans and sections created using Bentley AutoPLANT Piping into 2D AutoCAD drawings. The resulting drawings are compact and can be indistinguishable from manually drafted CAD drawings; hidden lines are removed and all annotation and dimensions remain as they were in the original paper-space rendition.
Drawing Flattener can convert multiple drawings and the system provides several configuration options to tailor the output.
AutoPLANT Piping: Customization Tools
AutoPLANT provides a variety of customization tools so that you can modify the software to handle the specific needs of a project, or to supplement the toolset already provided. This allows advanced users or those with special needs to easily extend the functionality of the applications.
Specification Generator
The Spec Generator is a stand-alone application whose primary function is to generate specifications for use with Bentley's current AutoPLANT applications.
Configuration Editor
The Configuration Editor provides a highly-intuitive graphical user interface with tabbed dialogs to enable you to create/modify project configurations
Class Editor
The Class Editor helps you to create/modify the module and component scripts and methods in a custom configuration.
