AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT Update 1

A while ago, Autodesk released Update 1 for AutoCAD 2011 and AutoCAD LT 2011. Within a couple days of its release an issue surfaced with Update 1 that prompted Autodesk to remove the Update for download until the problem could be fixed and the Update re-released.

In the interim, the AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT Layer Manager Hotfix was released to correct the issue for those customers that had already downloaded and installed Update 1 before it was removed.

Autodesk has re-released the update as Update 1.1 for AutoCAD 2011 and AutoCAD LT 2011. Update 1.1 replaces Update 1 and includes the fix that was released in the aforementioned hotfix. 32-bit and 64-bit versions of this update can be found at the following links:

This update is only for AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT and CANNOT be applied to vertical products that are based on AutoCAD 2011 (we expect that when Update 1 is released for the vertical products it will be based on Update 1.1 for AutoCAD and thus, will include the necessary fix)

How do you stay current and updated?

Between the initial release (and subsequent removal) of Update 1, the release of the hotfix for Update 1, and now the release of Update 1.1, there may be some confusion about what you do or do not need to download and install.

The following instructions apply to both AutoCAD 2011 and AutoCAD LT 2011:

  • If you have not already installed Update 1:
You should now install Update 1.1. You do not need the hotfix as it is included in Update 1.1.
  • If you previously installed Update 1 and have installed the hotfix:
You do not need to install Update 1.1 as you are already current.
    Update 1 + Hotfix = Update 1.1.

If you previously installed Update 1 and you have not installed the hotfix:
You can either install the hotfix onto Update 1 or you can choose to uninstall Update 1 and then install Update 1.1. Both options will bring your AutoCAD up-to-date.

CAD Management: Betwixt and Between

“CAD managers live in a world that sits between other things. Managers position themselves to move from chaos to control. Between upper management and the front line worker. Betwixt standardization and disarray.”
